This image and text were uploaded to Astrobin today. NGC 55 is a fun target! https://www.astrobin.com/dqk3ix/?nc=user

NGC 55, the White Whale

This galaxy is almost perfectly edge-on, yet presents a myriad of internal details. It’s a member of our local group and may be gravitationally connected to NGC 300. NGC 55 has many pink star-forming regions and young blue-star clusters.

This is an RGB image, processed with a synthetic luminance.
