The short answer to your question re:license is "no one knows!"
That's because expiry has not been enforced and will not be enforced until the 1.4 version hits release candidate (and of course, if your license had expired, your expired license will still work with any versions up until 1.4).
I still need to work out what a fair and equitable solution is to license renewal. However, for now, even if you have a 5 year old license, it should still work today with the latest version.
