ngc 2403

Post by leone2k »

Hello everyone,
I sent a picture of NGC 2403, are 40 frames of 480 seconds ISO 800 with Canon 350.
This is my best result
I can not do better
this is direct link to the tiff file

Hi Leonardo,

Apologies for the late reply.
I had a look at the data and there are some small improvements I think we can make.
For starters, the data appears oversampled at the scale you posted (e.g. 1 unit of real detail is smeared out over multiple pixels). This probably due to atmospheric conditions at the time of acquisition. Use the Bin module to reduce resolution and increase signal fidelity. The increased signal fidelity can be used to apply deconvolution or push the data a little more.I can see a number of ringing artifacts around some stars. I'm not sure if this is due to deconvolution or some other procedure, but you may want to either protect those stars with a mask, or use a less aggressive setting. Stretching the image shows some banding, as well as uneven lighting, which leads me to believe no flats or bias frames were used. Is this correct? If so, you *need* to take these, as faint objects like these require them.

Could you give us some more acquisition details (number of lights, flats, darks, exposure times, etc.).

--- Bin
Parameter [Scale] set to [(scale/noise reduction 70.71%)/(200.00%)/(+1.00 bits)]
To reduce oversampling
--- Crop
Parameter [X1] set to [455 pixels]
Parameter [Y1] set to [618 pixels]
Parameter [X2] set to [2082 pixels (-1392)]
Parameter [Y2] set to [1766 pixels (-550)]
Better framing
--- Wipe
Masked out galaxy, used Vignetting preset.
Parameter [Dark Anomaly Filter] set to [3 pixels]
Parameter [Corner Aggressiveness] set to [98 %]
--- Auto Develop
ROI over galaxy.
Parameter [Ignore Fine Detail <] set to [4.7 pixels]
Parameter [Outside ROI Influence] set to [3 %]
--- Contrast
Parameter [Dark Anomaly Filter] set to [4 pixels]
--- Deconvolution
Created auto mask.
Default parameters.
--- Wavelet Sharpen
Using same mask from Decon.
Default parameters.
--- Life
Isolate preset. Full mask set.
Parameter [Strength] set to [67 %]
--- Color
Looking for blue outer rim, yellow core, pink HII areas.
Parameter [Cap Green] set to [To Yellow]
Parameter [Dark Saturation] set to [5.00]
Parameter [Green Bias Reduce] set to [1.47]
--- Wavelet De-Noise
To taste (used development version with enhanced noise reduction routines).
--- Develop
Parameter [Dark Anomaly Filter] set to [8.0 pixels]
To reduce sky glow.

And this is the result

hello, sorry late reply,
photo data:
Group 1 : Light n. 17 - 800 ISO - 480 sec, Flat n.21, dark n.21, Bais n.31
Group 2 : Light n. 25 - 800 ISO - 480 sec, Flat n.25, dark n.25, Bais n.31
