This is what I ended up with with ST 1.3.5

Pretty standard workflow;

--- Auto Develop
To see what we got.
--- Crop
To frame M42/M43 a bit better.
--- Bin
To reduce noise.
--- Wipe
Default values.
--- Auto Develop
ROI over M42 complex.
Parameter [Ignore Fine Detail <] set to [3.0 pixels]
--- Deconvolution
Autogenerate mask.
Parameter [Radius] set to [2.5 pixels]

(could do wavelet sharpening here)

--- Life
Reset mask (Mask->Clear->Invert).
Isolate preset.
--- Color
Parameter [Cap Green] set to [To Yellow]
--- Wavelet De-Noise
Parameter [Brightness Detail Loss] set to [9 %]

I used the repair and filter modules to round the stars and reduce the chromatic aberration.

Great stuff Ivo - I know what to aim for now. I can't believe you turned my arrowheads into stars! You also picked out the very faint clouds.

Once I rework my latest images as per your workflow I will post them to the Nexstar group. There must be a lot of alt-az users who would love to try out DSOs.
