Repeating crashes
Repeating crashes
I'm running 1.8.525. on a 6-core i7 Mac Mini and Big Sur OS. I have had several occasions where the application crashes about half way through the workflow. If I try again and repeat my steps, it crashes at the same point. The dialog says something about GPU errors. Is there some kind of log file or something that I can share to help sort it out? . I want to use alternatives to PI in my next book, but it is difficult to do objectively when I cannot rely on the outcome.
Re: Repeating crashes
Hi,
Would you be able to provide some more information as to which module crashes?
What is the size (X * Y resolution) of the dataset you are trying to process?
If you are experiencing errors coming from the GPU, either your GPU is getting overwhelmed or some sort of hardware issue (for example, overheating) is at play.
If you are running StarTools on a underpowered GPU (such as an older iGPU) with large datasets, it may be better to run StarTools on the CPU only. Depending on the age and capabilities of your GPU, the speed difference may be negligible.
See here for more information on how to force CPU-only operation on macOS;

Do let us know how you get on!
