GLIBC_2.29 & linux

I'm a licensed user of StarTools. A hard drive crash cost me my working version of the program. I downloaded the current stable version and I cannot get it to run (linux, debian-based distro). I get this error message:

./StarTools-Linux64-GPU: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.29' not found (required by ./StarTools-Linux64-GPU)

Is there a work-around? Thank you.

Hi,

I'm not aware of any up-to-date Linux distros that don't at least support GLIBC 2.29.
What distro are you using? Are you keeping it current?

Thank you,

Thanks - I'm running Debian 10 ("Buster"), released Oct 9, 2021.

Hmmm....
Indeed, that distro inexplicably shipped with a rather old (almost 4 years) version of GLIBC (2.28). :(

While I see that Debian 10 is still supported (LTS), Debian 11 "Bullseye" seems to be available as well (which ships with GLIBC 2.31).
Are you able to update to a newer version of Debian, or is this out of the question?

Thank you,

Thank you for checking on the GLIBC content of both distros. It looks like an update is in order. I tend to run older laptops, but I think I can handle Debian 11.

Do let me know how you get on.
The GLIBC 2.29 requirement is an oversight on my behalf. When I re-based my development tools, I wrongly assumed that all major LTS distros at least shipped with 2.29. This is ostensibly not the case.
