StarTools Crash Linux 64bit 1.3195 RC1 - Noise modules

Hi Ivo. On using noise reduction modules ST crashes following noise reduction routine and subsequently selecting a subroutine, such as Keep, or Before/After, + or - image zoom. My system then goes through an intensive cycle of harddrive activity. Possibly a memory issues.

My system 4 logical processors 2.4ghz and 8mb RAM. Xubuntu latest.

Thanks for the bug report Rowland.
Is this a persistent issue that you can replicate?
Can you tell me how big your data set was? Was tracking mode enabled?

Thanks!

Ivo. It's persistent - 3 times now. Tracking mode enabled. Data set ~731MB fits, 4896 x 3264.

Binning 50% would probably help.

EDIT: Occurs with image size cropped to ~3180 x 2560.

Hmmm...
Could you try the latest (unreleased) RC http://startools.org/download/StarTools_1_3_198_RC.zip for me?
I cannot replicate this...
Would you be able to share the data with me?

I was not able to reproduce the crash using two very large files. I'm not sure whether you made any changes, but it all seems to be working well.

Ok, I'm glad that has solved your problem. Please do let me know about any re-occurrence of this instability, as this info is very valuable.
I've upgraded by dev box and compiler as of 1.3.198 and am now using a slightly updated version of GCC. I've had to do a fair amount of tweaking of the optimisation flags to get things stable and actually reverted to using -O2 for the 32-bit versions because of a nasty bug in GCC that caused mallocs to fail on the new compiler. Valgrind turned up nothing. O2 stabilised it.
Downside of migration of my devbox is that, on Linux, users will now need GLIBC 2.15 (from Ubuntu 12.04 / Linux Mint 13 onwards).

Thanks again Rowland for letting me know!

Hi Rowland,

I fixed a bug in the Denoise module that could've caused the behaviour you were seeing. A new, fixed version is now up for download.
Again, do let me know if you further see anything out of the ordinary!

Cheers,
