Notice how the stars get red rings and the galactic center changes to orange when Scientific Color is turned on vs. Artistic Color

Hi,

As discussed in this thread, and after examining your data, it appears the red rings are an artefact of your data and not a bug in StarTools.

Absolutely its a data issue but if you look at the center of the galaxy or a strong orange star the object grows edges in a way that looks a little abnormal. It appears that it highlights them so much that the red channel in photoshop shows the stars as rings. Perhaps there should be an option to smooth or blend the edges?

What's happening is that color data is recovered in the highlights that doesn't seem to be correct. The whole 'nice' thing (not so nice in this case) is that the Color Constancy algorithm attempts to undo the distorting effects any luminance stretching has had on the hue and saturation, while psychovisually retaining the brightness of the pixel. It'd be nice to figure out where the rings come from...
