NGC 253, The Sculptor Galaxy

Post by Russ.Carpenter »

I uploaded this image and text to Astrobin this morning. The Astrobin URL is https://www.astrobin.com/full/efgvsb/0/

The Sculptor Galaxy, NGC 253

This famous galaxy has several alternative names: The Silver Coin Galaxy, the Silver Dollar Galaxy, and Caldwell 65. It’s not easy to find something new in such an easily observed and imaged object. Here I attempted to minimize the distractions in the background and emphasize the galaxy’s interior details. That turned out to be a fulfilling project because the Sculpture is loaded with colors and structures. Be sure to zoom in on this image. This is an RGB image, processed with a synthetic luminance.
