Fits or Tiff ???

Post by crayonharry »

Does Startools work with both Fits and Tiff files? Is one better than the other?
Thanks

Hi,

FITS was created for very high bitdepth scientific data, whereas TIFF is an image file format (a subtle difference that can have not-so-subtle consequences ;) ).
32-bit integer FITS files are your best bet if you can produce them.

Is there any software in particular you prefer using for data capture/generation?

Yep, FITS is your best bet for reasons of compatibility. For StarTools, integer 32-bits is preferred.
