When to make a synthetic luminance?

Hi,
I was wondering if, when processing HaRGB, or lrgb etc, should I always make a synthetic luminance? Or are there times when it's best not to... just curious as I have been doing it since I learned how.
Also, when doing the synthetic chrominance, in the tutorial that wasn't really processed all the way before adding that to the synthetic Luminance. Shouldn't the chrominance be processed all the way before adding it to the luminance?
Just wondering why, in the tutorial, the chrominance isn't processed all the way.
Thanks KS
