Rosette Nebula Procesing

Post by azkabar »

Hi all,
I am having trouble processing the Rosette Nebula unfortunately. The outcome of the image is very grainy and noisy. I perform auto dev first, then lens and then bin. After that, wipe with the vignetting option on and finally auto develop that image again.
I'm guessing this is due to the lack of subs (especially imaging in London) but I was wondering if I could tone down the image and get the background nice and even.

Thank you so much,
Seb

Interesting tutorial. That one's new to me Dave.

Hi Azkabar,

I gave your image a try as well. See what you think. I don't have my log to post yet but will shortly. To summarize, I binned it by 35% (since there's not a lot of detail in the image), did minimal stretching under auto dev, tried to saturate the red so it would stand out. I also did a unmasked isolate life as well as a masked one later one ( I let startools find the brightest pixels so the choice wouldn't be too subjective). Also, in the end I removed the stars so I could reduce them and lower their gamma - then re-added them.

Cheers

Hi Burly and Rowland,
Sorry for the late replies.
Thank you so much for posting the log Burly, it really helps and your final image is fanatastic!
Rowland, our image is also fantastic, the colours are subtle which in my mind makes it seem terrific. if you wouldn't mid posting the log so I have some direction on where to head. Thank you so much again, Seb

HI Seb

Sorry I didn't post the log. Since then I've upgraded and so lost my log file - will try to reprocess sometime soon. All the best.
