Hello again! I purchased a set of used gear, including an Explore Scientific AR152... Apparently this scope is famous for it's Chromatic Aberration.

I saw this post: http://forum.startools.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=254 Which gave me hope, in that you can use the fringe killer to help remove it, however after following the instructions on that page and then clicking on the purple (and in my case way more blue), nothing seems to happen.

I'm working on uploading the data so that you can take a look at it, but I'm really starting to think already (based on the online reviews), that I might need to put the scope up for sale and buy something else.

I will post back again when the data upload completes, it's taking longer than I thought it would.

I've been doing more research and I've narrowed it down really to two options.

Camp 1 - The folks in this camp basically say sell this scope and buy a triplet or quad. I can probably do so for about a +$300 difference assuming I can sell this scope for what I need.

Camp 2 - Use a Baader Filter, either a longpass 495 or the Baader Semi-APO filter. The 495 longpass is about $40 and the Semi-APO is $90

At the end of the day, it boils down to a filter is going to remove some of the "energy", requiring longer exposures, but I have my tracking mount now and I'm able to get 10 minute exposures with no trails. Possibly longer but I haven't tried yet.

I'm welcoming any opinions!

Don't know what camera you have but what about a mono camera and filter wheel to take RGB images. Could be a whole new adventure for you!

I'd love to go CCD, just can't afford it yet.

After taking with my friend who's been doing Astrophotography for a couple years, his opinion was that I would probably be happier selling this scope to someone doing visual (it's an excellent visual scope), and pickup a triplet or a quad instead.

Side note I did finally figure out what I was doing with the fringe killer function. You have to click multiple times on the area (assuming it's sampling each time?) anyway just keep clicking and eventually you'll see results. I guess in my case the Ca is just that bad
