Image Brightness

Post by gustavo_sanchez »

Hello,

Is there an option to change an image brightness? I could not find any "brightness" setting.

Hi Gustavo,

Thanks for your question.
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by 'brightness', but if you mean stretching, then this can be achieved by using the Develop module or the Auto Develop modules.
Changing contrast and brightness in traditional image processing suites like PhotoShop or The GIMP actually destroys your data by clipping it. It is therefore not suitable for astrophortography and therefore you will not find such an option in StarTools or other astrophotography packages.

Let me know if this answers your question.

Thanks for your reply,

What I meant is, if I want to make an image "dimmer" what would be the procedure?

Then the Develop module's Gamma parameter would be your weapon of choice. A gamma value that is smaller than 1.0 will dim the image. A gamma that is larger than 1.0 brightens the image.

Hope that helps,
