Re: ETTR (Expose to the right) and StarTools

The write-up you linked was the original inspiration for my post. Since that time I ended up ordering a Baader Semi-APO filter, and this thing is awesome. Between the filter, extremely aggressive dithering, and carefully tweaking the exposures and ISO settings for each target, I've managed a few OK ...

Layering (M31 core)

So I've decided to go after M31 (Andromeda), and I think anyone who's ever shot long exposures of it will have the same experience, if you shoot long exposures you can get great detail in the spiral, but you "blow out" the core. Of course shooting shorter exposures will get you the core, but not the...

Re: New Telescope, new issue

I'd love to go CCD, just can't afford it yet. After taking with my friend who's been doing Astrophotography for a couple years, his opinion was that I would probably be happier selling this scope to someone doing visual (it's an excellent visual scope), and pickup a triplet or a quad instead. Side n...

Re: New Telescope, new issue

I've been doing more research and I've narrowed it down really to two options. Camp 1 - The folks in this camp basically say sell this scope and buy a triplet or quad. I can probably do so for about a +$300 difference assuming I can sell this scope for what I need. Camp 2 - Use a Baader Filter, eith...

New Telescope, new issue

Hello again! I purchased a set of used gear, including an Explore Scientific AR152... Apparently this scope is famous for it's Chromatic Aberration. I saw this post: http://forum.startools.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=254 Which gave me hope, in that you can use the fringe killer to help remove it, howeve...

ETTR (Expose to the right) and StarTools

I did a quick search for ETTR and didn't find anything. Is anyone using ETTR techniques in heavy light pollution area's and processing with StarTools? Are you changing very much with your workflow? My local forcast says it's going to be the last clear night for quite a while, I have work in the morn...

Re: Video of me processing, please help

BTW, wanted to apologize for bringing up the whole color mottle thing. I was doing more searching and finally found your previous reply on this very video and subject. I should have searched more before asking. There is an pretty good learning curve to this hobby (more like a cliff). It's no wonder ...

Re: Video of me processing, please help

Thank you again! Each time I run though these I feel like I learn something more. I appreciate the feedback on the gear as well. There is a lot of opinion out there on the web, which is touted about as absolute facts, but the truth is that most folks are trying to be helpful and tell folks what work...
