A quick DSS settings summary anywhere?
I'm just wondering if anyone can provide the current 'best practice' settings for combining raw files in DSS, in preparation for processing in startools. I shoot a mirrorless/mini-DSLR that creates 24mpix raws. I shoot bias, dark and flat files. I often go for Kappa-Sigma stacking for the lights and...

Re: Bias files causing new problems.
Thanks for the help. I'll double check all the DSS stuff and maybe reshoot the bias files too.

Bias files causing new problems.
I've incorporated bias files into my DSS/Startools workflows for ages. Just out of interest, I thought I'd try a new ISO setting on my Sony A6000 camera. I've been using ISO400 all year and re-using the master bias file I made ages ago with DSS. So, I set it to ISO1000 and took some photos last nigh...

Re: Wipe module leaves bands at edges
Thanks for the tip!
I use 'interesection mode' in DSS when stacking so I wasn't really expecting any edge artifacts.
However.... Cropping just a few pixels from all for edges made a *big* difference. (I cropped 50px approx from each edge, it's not much loss from a 6mpix image)
Good stuff!

Wipe module leaves bands at edges
Hi, I'm still loving startools! But I have a persistent problem that I get when using the wipe module. - I often get a nice 'centre' of the wiped image but it's often just a rectangle at the center of the image. Sometimes I get broad bands along two or three edges. Not usually a problem as I can cro...

Re: Beginning image processing
Hi Andy, I'm quite new to Astro Photography in general and startools in particular. Here's what I could manage: https://c5.staticflickr.com/1/400/32173156796_8f4a64cb18_c.jpg I loaded it, chose option 1 for data type. The basic flow I followed was AutoDev, crop, Wipe, bin, wipe, colour, Dev, Colour,...

Current thinking - use raw or tiff?
So, I'm clearly a bit of a newbie to astrophotography. Can someone help me establish current 'best practice' on what files to feed into DSS? I've read many threads (some rather old, some rather new) and I've lost track of how to get the best results, other than making sure all the colour calibration...

Re: re-doing the same steps?
Ah ha! That log file contains exactly what I was looking for. HAving a way to automate applying the same steps would be quite handy. I often have my processing time limited by things like having to go to work etc. If I shut down startools and the computer, it would be *very* handy to have a way to r...

re-doing the same steps?
I've had great fun with StarTools but I'm definitely still a novice. I've been having some success but every now and then, the app crashes and I have to start again. The trouble is, I can't remember what settings I made! I have to work my way through the steps, trying my best to recall what I did at...
