Re: Narrowband color cast after wipe
Ivo, Fantastic answer, insights and suggestions. Looking forward to following up on your suggestions. Many thanks, Peter P.S. All of the LIGHTs were 10 minute exposures with lots of Amp Glow. Most of it calibrated out but obviously some of it was left behind. I had a terrible time generating FLATs w...

Narrowband color cast after wipe
I am just starting to use a LeNhance filter with my QHY294C astrocam. I calibrate with DARKS, BIAS and FLATs with roughly 3 hours of LIGHTs. I stack using intersection mode in DSS. I crop 5 pixels off of all edges to ensure good data. When I wipe I always get a reddish color along the Right Hand Edg...

Re: Frustrated...going backwards
Another way for us to learn a little more is to open one of your FITS files using notepad. The beginning of the file has some text that describes the file. The rest is totally unreadable. If you could post a reply here and simply cut and paste the text from the beginning of the file into your post t...

Re: Frustrated...going backwards
I am an experienced D5300 astroimager and I have seen a few things mentioned here that maybe I can help with. The D5300 is advertised as a 6000 x 4000 image size camera but when the image files are read by Deep Sky Stacker they are 6016 x 4016. This slightly larger file size happens because DSS uses...

Ghost Nebula and the Witch
On Sept 28th, 2019 I acquired 4 hours of data of the Ghost Nebula. A total of 29 photos. Each photo was a 500 second exposure at ISO200 using a Celestron 8" EdgeHD @ F10. My Nikon D5300 is Ha modified. The mount was a Celestron CGEM. Image calibration was done with master Flats, Bias and Darks. Stac...

Re: Using Wipe with Flats
Ivo,
Thanks for the detailed reply. I will probably stay with the default wipe settings but I will experiment with the narrowband preset to see it's effect.

Using Wipe with Flats
Sorry if this question has already been answered elsewhere... I always use flats when I calibrate and stack my light frames. Are there any suggestions for how to adjust the wipe module when using flats? Specifically, I wonder if the default Aggressiveness setting of 75% should be significantly reduc...

Re: Why deselect "Align RGB Channels" in DSS
Ivo, Thanks for clarifying. I have poured thru the forum and the recommendation to NOT align RGB channels when using DSS is widespread. The most obvious is this topic http://forum.startools.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=720&p=2915&hilit=align+RGB#p2914 I have written my own programs to calibrate my image...

Why deselect "Align RGB Channels" in DSS
I have searched the forum looking for some more detail regarding not having DSS align the RGB channels as part of it's stacking efforts. I have always thought that having DSS do this for me would be a little better than doing this manually with the Startools Lens module. I always use DCRAW to prepar...

Resume mode
I noticed that the .trk files contained in the startools directory always get set to zero when startools exits. Could you invent a "Resume" mode that could be set when the user exits the program. You could use this mode to keep the .trk files and set a flag that, when the program is next run will pr...
