Re: LRGB v RGB
Had a good read of DSS help file on calibrating. It seems I may have been adding the Flat Dark files twice because I was using the master files. I re stacked my original RGB 1hr 50m and the luminance file of 3hrs not using the master files, just the original raw calibrated files. Are these better ca...

Re: LRGB v RGB
Thank you for uploading. I notice your datasets are not very well calibrated (if at all?) and show a fair bit of walking noise. You should urgently address these issues first, as any noise comparisons that focus on shot noise (the only noise an AP'er should ideally be concerned with) becomes quite ...

Re: LRGB v RGB
Hi Guys thanks for taking the time out to reply. My filter set has an UV/IR cut so does not include IR band. I hear and understand whats being said but my experience is showing me something else so what is it that I am doing wrong? Last night I took another 2 hrs worth of frames on The Hickson 44 Ga...

Re: LRGB v RGB
Thank you Ivo I think I was a bit unkind to include the LRGB blend because if you have taken Luminance then I can see that it makes sense to do a LLRGB. I am not that good at seeing the finer points of an astro image yet. I am just starting to get a better handle on the StarTools combine module and ...

LRGB v RGB
I was going to post this on Cloudy nights but wanted to run it passed here first. Question is it better to take more Luminance images than just RGB? i.e. take a set of LRGB or just RGB. I would like to revisit this debate because I think the equipment and software used to capture and process astro i...

Re: Compose module 1.6.386 NGC2903
Thank you Ivo for your detailed reply. It seems I still have some fundamental misunderstanding of what to take and how to process the files. My decision to go mono was in part due to ST 1.6 having the ability to process multiple filtered files in a simpler way than other software. I have not yet ach...

Compose module 1.6.386 NGC2903
Compose module 1.6.386 I would like to fully understand how to use the compose module. I have read many different threads on this and some relate to earlier versions of ST. I have just upgraded from my mirroless camera to a mono camera and filterwheel. ASI1600MMPro EFW with LRGB and Ha filters on a ...

Re: Alatir Quadband and ST 1.6 beta
I had another go with the Quadband filter on the Cigar Galaxy M82 last night. There was a 90% moon and I captured 3hrs 22mins worth of 4mins ISO1600 with a Olympus EM1 MKII and iOptron RC6 on a CEM25EC mount no guiding. took 15 darks 20 Flats and 20Dark Flats. Processed in DSS 4.2.3 no WB checked an...

Re: Alatir Quadband and ST 1.6 beta
Hi Ivo For me the jury is still out on the usefulness of the Quadband filter. I need to get a good set of data of a couple of hours. I got the Quadband so that I had some protection between my RC6 and camera sensor. I once forgot to check the clouds and it rained luckily I did not get the sensor wet...
