Custom SHO in StarTools
This is the Cat's Paw Nebula in SHO. I quite like some of the custom sho mixes that StarTools offers. This one in particular gave great colour contrast - I feel. There is approximately 5.5 hours exposure here on a 20 inch planewave scope with a FLI-PL09000 camera imaged from Australia. Thanks for lo...

Re: a number os isues
Hi Ivo,
I've been using the version 563 now upgraded to 565. I'll let you know when I next try the synth module in my flow. I installed swapspace as advised and it make the world of difference!

Thanks Dietmar!
Wow. It's like I have a new computer. I tested it by processing some data at full resolution on a 15 year old laptop. Never crashed. Thanks

Thanks Ivo,
I am using Ubuntu LXDE and Mint Cinnamon on Linux. So this does not happen with you? For me every time. Never with version 8.
Thanks again.

a number os isues
I have a few observations to report: 1. In version 8 and 9 (maybe 7 too), in the sharpening module, the "before" is grayed out when using the default 300%. 299 or 301 enables it. 2. In version 9, clicking on the star synth modules causes the programme to crash 3. If using on a slow, old computer, in...

Hi all, I'm giving a startools workshop at my local astronomy club (RASC in Winnipeg Canada) and have a few questions. 1. What is the difference between "shadow linearity" and "detector gamma"? I find the stretches of autodev to be very conservative and low contrast - especialy in the later versions...

Re: true colour in globular clusters
Thanks for your work Dietmar - and yes, I will re-shoot next year as the target is now not visible. However, i will contact Mladen, the support person for ITelescope and see what can be done by updating flats or other calibration files. I don't know how they do this but hopefully they can with a mis...

Re: true colour in globular clusters
Thanks for this! ill need a bit of time to digest what you've written. Meanwhile I could at least re shoot the red and blue frames and then crop the image even more aggressively.
Generally this system produces good colours with other targets.
Thanks Richard

Re: true colour in globular clusters
Thanks for all your hard work Mike - really amazing. A few questions: After checking Stellarium though, I question those blue stars, since their B-V values make them rather Sun-like, and thus perhaps ought to be white. Stellarium provides you with such information? I never knew (how?) There's also a...
