I am also planning to do a mosaic of some larger objects. What I am unsure of is how (dis)similar the separate stacked images are before stitching. Don't know what camera you have but what about a mono camera and filter wheel to take RGB images. Could be a whole new adventure for you!

Who said it was easy? Don't give up, I'm still learning as well (after nearly 3 yrs). There are some brilliant guides in the User Notes forum section written by a guy called Guy. Work through them and take some time to experiment with the settings. Its a steep learning curve. I'm sure someone on her...

I've been thinking about trying this as well. I use Astrotortilla to align with my target. I have successfully used it to re-centre after a software glitch that stopped tracking. Thanks for that info. Sounds like I'll just keep on experimenting along these sort of guide lines. Not wanting to hijack this thread but I have dabbled with layers trying to get the core of M42 right using images with different exposures. Best tip: make sure your images are the same size and cropped...
