Thanks Ivo!
That makes perfect sense. The tracking in ST is brilliant!
Thank you for providing this excellent tool at such a reasonable cost. I am trying to convince a fellow APer to buy a copy.

When to do color calibration?
I was just reading the following article. http://dslr-astrophotography.com/right-colors-astrophotos/ It states that color calibration should be done while the data is still linear. Most workflows I have seen posted on this forum do the color calibration toward the end of the process, after the image...

Re: Using Regim with StarTools
Thanks for posting this! I've been interested in using Regim for a couple of reasons. I'm a bit of a Java coder myself, and I would like to use something that is being more actively developed than DSS. That said, I gae it a try with some NGC 7331 data I collected this past weekend, and the result wa...

Re: Guidance on Lens Module?
Thanks, Ivo, for that explanation. That helps a lot, especially about when to apply the Lens Module. I had been doing it late in the processing. I'll try again using it "up front". Would you suggest doing it after binning the image?

Guidance on Lens Module?
I've done a couple of searches of this forum for information on the Lens Module, but I haven't come up with much. I have some data that exhibits some very noticeable coma. I have tried to correct it with the Lens Module with varying degrees of success, but I always feel like I'm just guessing. Well....

Re: Newbie needs help with M31 data
I was leaning toward auto-dev based on Ivo's recommendation in the Modules documentation... "AutoDev has a lot of smarts behind it - some heavy analysis is going on of the ROI so that it can find the optimum histogram transformation curve. Develop, in comparison, is rather 'dumb' and mimics photogra...

Re: Newbie needs help with M31 data
Here's what it looks like before the wipe...just load and auto-dev
And after a crop, wipe and auto-dev. There is some decent detail in there that I'd like to tease out.

Re: Newbie needs help with M31 data
So, I haven't been able to get any better results than Che's so far. I'm still trying, though. I am wondering, however, why is my background so red? It doesn't look like classic light pollution (the yellow-brown cast). I'm wondering if it is an issue in the acquisition, in the stacking or something ...

Re: Newbie needs help with M31 data
Thanks Che! That looks way better than anything I had gotten so far. I can't share what I had done, as I was trying out ST in demo mode. I just sent payment to Ivo today, so I'll be a "real" user soon! I'm curious how you determined how far to crop. Did you do an AutoDev first? It wasn't real clear ...

Newbie needs help with M31 data
I captured this data of M31 a few weeks ago, and I'm really struggling with it. I recognize that it has a lot of issues: noise, coma, light pollution, etc. I'm hopeful that StarTools can still salvage it. Here are the particulars... Subs: 60 x 30" Lights, unguided 20 x 30" Darks 20 Flats Camera: Unm...
