Is there a way to combine 5 narrow band image sets
I'm interested it recreating the recent Hubble release of NGC2775. Looking at the data there are 5 narrow band images: IR(814), Green(555), Blue(438), Near UV(336), and Far UV(275). What is the best way to approach this if the goal is to produce what I call a "realistic view" pulling the IR and UV i...

Re: Wavelet De-Noise is messing with the stars
Sure thing. You can find all the files at http://casazza.net/Astro. This rendition is looking a lot better. Whatever you changed made the difference. Being a software guy myself I thought yo might want the data to run through the algorithms anyway. A few other notes about the image and the process. ...

Wavelet De-Noise is messing with the stars
I have never run into this before. When I stop tracking and run De-Noise I get stars with "dimmer center spots." There is a hint of "abused" stars prior to the De-Noise but De-Noise really brings it out. I have tried every option to fix this, but only turning down the both brightness and color loss ...

Have you considered a 32 bit output file option?
I have started playing around with Gimp 1.9 dev versions and the implementation and support for both 16 bit and 32 bit image files is impressive. While I can get real close with Star Tools alone, I do like to make some final adjustments in Photoshop. I'd love to be able to output a 32 bit depth file...

Re: M42: What is the best way to combine 5 different exposur
Ivo, Sorry I was not clear. I took 65 60-second, 43 30-second, and 33 10-second exposures all at ISO800. I stacked each set separately in Nebulosity. I then processed each set separately in StarTools. I used my StarTools workflow on every stack. For the 60 and 10 second stack I used the ST workflow ...

M42: What is the best way to combine 5 different exposures?
I recently shot M42 at 60 seconds, 30 seconds, and 10 seconds. I processed the 60 second stacked image two different ways. One was overly aggressive to get the faint nebulosity and is somewhat afflicted with noise. I also processed the 10 second frames two different ways. One normal and with much le...

Saving your work while tracking is active
Ivo, I want to open with a big thank you for this great product. I tend to acquire images all summer and process in the cold months so I'm getting into ST once again. Because I work long hours and I only have 30 to 60 minutes each night to work an image I have to hibernate my computer so the program...

Re: IC342 - second image with Star Tools
Ivo, That is the un-color balanced, just stretched, data! My preprocessing workflow is standard for Nebulosity: Apply darks, flats, and bias; normalize; debayer; align (I use 2 point alignment to adjust for translation and rotation); stack. Nebulosity does some stuff when it stacks that DSS does not...

Re: IC342 - second image with Star Tools
Ivo, I agree, this is very helpful in figuring out how to do these things. This only my second image processed in any serious way with StarTools and I am very much still learning. You can tell that I am inserting ST into a process I have been using for a while. As I learn more capabilities in ST I w...
