Re: Vignette like gradient
I think I accidentally found the source of my nemesis, the dreaded Blue Fringe. It seems to be light pollution. I still don't understand how it manifests as just a fringe of gradient, but knowing the source may help me, or others with similar gradients, figure it out. My reasoning for believing the ...

Re: Vignette like gradient
Does the issue persist if you eliminate the flats and/or bias frames from the stack? I detect a presence of some faint, large scale horizontal and vertical bands, which could indicate problems with either... I don't know. I'll reprocess tomorrow as suggested and get back to you. Can't do it tonight...

Vignette like gradient
I have an ongoing problem with some sort of vignetting. I've been battling this issue for ~30 imaging sessions. This image is an example. M78 2014_12_22 2015_01_12 Comp Neb V2 ST Vig JPG.jpg I will post 2 other sample images in this post. All three are captured with my Canon 60DA attached to the Fie...

Re: Creating a multi exposure length HDR composite
I have a question, isn't it better to stack all those exposures in a single fit? DSS already does that using groups Regards I don't think so. The whole idea of using different exposure lengths is to take advantage of the advantages of them. A shorter exposure will expose detail in brighter areas th...

Re: Creating a multi exposure length HDR composite
Using your stacking solution (for example DSS), try stacking one data set using the other as a reference. This way you'll have perfectly aligned images and the same dimensions. Does this help? I don't know. I'll have to look into that. My first impression is that, as I dither my lights, the stackin...

Re: Creating a multi exposure length HDR composite
I was so excited to see this tutorial and after looking at it I find it will not work for my situation as far as I can see. I tried this with 2 stacks of M31 data taken on different nights, different years actually, and the layers won't combine because the images are of different dimensions. I thoug...

The duck Hunt
So now you’re up to speed here is my response. I didn’t use binning. I have been concerned about losing detail by doing so. I think my concern was correct. The thing I was incorrect about is that the detail I lose is oversamlping noise, so it’s a good thing. I understand the concept of oversampling...

Dual monitor support
I've started using a second monitor when processing images on my laptop. It would be handy for me to be able to display the image I'm processing on the big screen monitor while I process. At this point I just use the whole "big screen" to process, but having just the image there, even if it's also o...

Re: Process Help for M81, M82
Hope this helps![/quote] Thanks Ivo, that absolutely helps! Now that's what I call a tutorial. Your processing gives me a boost in confidence. With more data and more time working with StarTools I'll be able to produce images that, if I'm not careful, will end up on department store telescope boxes....

Re: Process Help for M81, M82
Wow nice result! Thanks for processing the data. I knew there was more detail in M81. I see you Binned, as recommended in the tutorials. You also used Decon which I have yet to get figured out. Looks like I need to watch more tutorials. I'll process using your settings so I can see the changes happe...
