Re: Autodev query

You are the master! :bow-yellow: I wonder how the data was previously stretched? The data is from a Sony A57 RAW file that was simply converted to TIFF. My suspicion is that the stretching happens inside the camera. The reason I think that is that I did an experiment to see how much amp glow came fr...

Re: Autodev query

. . . From the screenshot I can tell the resolution of your image is way too high . . . Now I see what you mean about the Binning function and my image having too much data. When I first used StarTools and played with the sliders I noticed that some of the units were in fractions of a pixel. My min...

Done. That was my first time with DropBox too. Hopefully it went OK. I added the e-mail address that you sent the StarTools registration from.

Re: Autodev query

The original data file is attached. I certainly appreciate your help and insight. If a photo editing dummy like me can learn then anyone can. :D The other evening I did play with "Dark Anomaly" a little bit but did not have a feel for what it was trying to do. For example I was not sure if it was lo...

Re: Autodev query

Here is another attempt, this time following the process. I am only posting the progress up to the Global Restretch. Things deteriorated after that and the image ended up being a mess of muted pastels. You can see how gorgeous the image starts to get with the first wipe. Where I kept getting stuck w...

Re: Autodev query

Ivo, I will try again using the workflow you outlined and take careful notes. It seems to me that part of the problem might be that my camera is unmodified. I don't know exactly how that manifests in the raw image data, but my understanding is that red is the affected color. A blotchy red background...

Re: Autodev query

My best recollection is that the first thing I did was turn off tracking. I still do not understand what tracking does, but then again I have only played with the software for a few hours. The problem I kept running into was that the background was filled with red blotches. The only way I could figu...

Re: Autodev query

I was able to finally get something out of the photo. The trick was masking out the stars before doing an aggressive wipe. I was never able to use the AutoDev function. It always made extreme colors. Sorry but I don't know the technical term. This is my first astrophoto. :D http://i177.photobucket.c...

Re: Autodev query

Ivo and Ubertank, Thank you for this thread. I am also new to this hobby. Yesterday I tried to stretch my first image and ran into the same problem. Here is the initial AutoDev on my image. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w207/ebaconjr/Astro/M13_zpsb7eb1c64.png [/url] I will try the steps that Iv...
