Re: What to do about these weird gradients?
For your flat problem, Have you tried sky flats? Easy to do, Cheap, just use some blue sky with the OTA of your choice during the morning after dawn. (Helps with the temperature issues & make sure that the rig is out of direct sunlight). Make a histogram about in the middle, and shoot ~ 50 of them. ...

Re: Mask Construction
Sure Ivo, here's one example I often save the deconvolution generated mask early on. Then after doing more work,( full mask, whatever) and after noise reduction I'll want to sharpen and use fractals on the prominent features but don't want to include sky backround and especially the stars and halos ...

Mask Construction
Save a saved mask into a current active mask in the session. Now I need to save a mask open a new session of star tools ( very inconvenient is in tracking mode), and use the layer module to combine them, save then open the target image again ect. This would really help with them halos among other th...

Re: More Colour Issues - Losing the will to live - help!
Try using a mask using fat stars and eliminate the galaxy from the mask. then Color>keep mask>sample. Then still in color>mask>clear>invert(fills Mask)>keep. now you'll be closer! this uses the nearby galactic stars for white color balance. Don't forget to use the max color icon to help fine tune wh...

Xisf Format
Any plans to include the xisf format to ST?. For what ever reason I've had to give up DSS for my stacking and am using that other really complicated PI for linear processing. Of course I save to 32 bit fits for ST. Seems to come out alright. Is there a practical difference between the integer and fl...

Re: Difference between TIFF and FITS files
Some time ago I did DSS of assorted Globulars and processed them in STools We found (Ivo & me) that the 32 bit int Fits showed more dynamic range and definition than the tiff format for these objects.

Comet Solas in Galaxy Group ACO 1367
http://astrob.in/158154/B/rawthumb/gallery/get.jpg [/url] Here's a deep field done with my 6" Newtonian. There are 19th mag galaxies visible. The Sb spiral NGC 3883 is in the uper right corner. The bifurcation in the comet was caused by the Meridian flip. Took a while. Got 0.6" RMS out of the Atlas...
