Re: Colours in the Trapezium in M42

The green is correct and is a sign of a well-processed image. M42 is one of the few objects that is O-III ("doubly ionised oxygen") emission dominant. Keep doing what you're doing and call out people that doctor their images to remove the green O-III emissions! See also here on results of spectrosco...

Re: StarTools vs Siril - A challenge

No, not extremely light poluted (Between Bortle 4 and 5, I think), or crazy gain. 1/2 unity, I think. It was ages ago that I set it and just left it. The 30 seconds for RGB was a mistake, I'd usually use 60 seconds for colour but I swear that the UI of KStars is set up to cause mistakes to happen :...

Re: StarTools vs Siril - A challenge

I would consider the "some" qualifier to be somewhat optimistic... There is very little original detail left Would you mind showing me what you mean? That Siril image is literally the only image I've processed using that software, and while I may or may not stick to it, I'd like to understand what ...

Re: StarTools vs Siril - A challenge

Thanks Alex, My Siril image had nothing done to it that should have synthesised anything. ...Starnet... Starnet is one of the worst culprits for artifacts and blatantly making stuff up. It reinterprets the entire dataset. Fortunately it is the least sophisticated at doing this, so it is easy to spot...

Re: StarTools vs Siril - A challenge

Hmmm.... I'm just not seeing how, given the rather noisy and limited LRGB dataset provided, one can arrive at any of the Siril images without some heavy (and I mean heavy !) detail synthesis. Can you confirm neither Siril images had any detail synthesis involved? To me, both images seem heavily doct...

Re: Open up StarTools?

Hi Ivo, I love StarTools. However, fewer and fewer forum participants and the stalled development process indicate a decline in interest and users, which is a shame. To turn around that really unfortunate situation, would it help to open up StarTools to allow others to develop and code modules to b...

Re: Compose module needs alignment

Late to the party, but indeed, the latest could be some sort of chromatic aberration.
All great suggestions (thanks Martin). The Filter module's Fringe Killer option may be a good solution here.

Re: OSC duoband HOO strategies

Most of the push happened in Optidev The issue with processing your different signals non-linearly like that, is that you are now suggesting relative emissions in places are higher and lower than they are in reality. The whole point of being able to linearly throttle your relative emissions, is tha...
