Processes or tools for removing moon glare?
During a bright or full moon I would still like to be able to get out to do some deep sky imaging. Does Startools have any special tools/processes that work well for removing moon glare? The weather has been really bad here in New England lately and I am extremely limited in which nights are availab...

Re: Assistance requested - eclipse image
Thanks for the replies. Hey Mike - hope you are doing well. I went back and debayered it in PI and the pictures came out great, and in color. The reason it was not debayered was because I did not use DSS (which debayers automatically). I therefore was not used to debayering for single (unstacked) fr...

Assistance requested - eclipse image
I took this eclipse image during totality, and am having trouble bringing out any color in the solar flares. Can anyone assist? The image appears to be strictly black and white. I also get a strange checkerboard pattern in the background after running autodev. Here is a Google drive link (FITS file)...

Re: Andromeda galaxy processing issues
Thanks Mike. I think I'm going to call this one a total loss and capture Andromeda again as soon as the high humidity lets up. Sounds like fixing this just isn't worth the time. And I'll take your advice on using shorter subs. Next time I'll try using either 30-sec or a minute (or both, and compare ...

Andromeda galaxy processing issues
Hi all, I imaged the Andromeda Galaxy last night under extremely humid conditions (91-93% relative humidity), and temperatures in the 70's. I got some strange results- the galaxy appears way overexposed in the center. I have an asi 294 color camera and a Skywatcher esprit 100 ED scope. The flat fram...

Re: Help needed - fireworks galaxy processing
Mike, Thanks for the additional analysis! Here is a link to one light frame which shows the eggy-looking stars, which look the worst in the upper left. In the lower right of the screen they look round (or a lot better at least). After doing some reading on the subject, this looks like it could be co...

Re: Help needed - fireworks galaxy processing
MIke, et al: Well I tried capturing the fireworks galaxy again last night and the noise is gone (for some unknown reason) but I now have egg-shaped stars. I was taking 4-min exposures for around 5 hrs, guided with PHD2. Not sure if it is a PHD2 issue, a mount issue or what. This would have been a de...

Re: Help needed - fireworks galaxy processing
Thanks for the replies, and Hi Mike! Mike- you are correct that there was already a dark and flat subtraction going on and that was my fault- I did it by accident. I was livestacking earlier and had the automatic dark and flat subtraction turned on for that, and forgot to turn it off when I did my l...

Re: Help needed - fireworks galaxy processing
Thanks Dietmar. Here is a link to one light file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JQK2cr8YEB6V5gVKI4egqlg4Xrx0L8vl/view?usp=sharing I was autoguiding using PhD2 but was not dithering. I was told that I should use "dark flats" instead of bias files when processing, so that is why i didn't use bias f...

Help needed - fireworks galaxy processing
Hi, I am having some real difficulty processing the fireworks galaxy (NGC6946) and am hoping someone can help. I took about 4 hrs of 2-min subs last night under what appeared to be ideal conditions, but when I went to process it in startools there were 2 issues: 1) when the raw stack included lights...
