Re: OSC duoband HOO strategies

Second - how is preservation of relative emission strengths impacted by using substantially increased exposure times for Oiii vs Ha? This is obviously not an issue for OSC-duoband, but it's pretty common practice in mono imaging. That's an interesting point. I would guess it's all about the SNR, an...

Re: OSC duoband HOO strategies

Most of the push happened in Optidev The issue with processing your different signals non-linearly like that, is that you are now suggesting relative emissions in places are higher and lower than they are in reality. The whole point of being able to linearly throttle your relative emissions, is tha...

Re: My dark nebula is too dark

Good test, Carles. I noticed those also. At first I was thinking those waffle artifacts could be something from debayering, and ASTAP also has a lot of extra options regarding that and color - though I would expect Stefan to keep to the "approved" settings. Once I got to color and noticed...

Re: My dark nebula is too dark

See also, my shower is too wet and my oven too hot. ;) Good try though Stefan! Using my finely-honed Google skills, it seems the little valley that IOTD was in, Hinterwildalpen, is B2 and maybe also mountain-protected when aiming at Cygnus. A little bit higher perhaps than Feuchtwangen but not major...

Re: West Veil duoband+OSC stars

Good grief I think I'm 6+ pages behind on all the "new" posts; I'll never catch back up! But had to log in to give congrats on this fine image. One of my favorite targets, and which I never manage to get right myself. Leaving most or all of the starfield is also right down my alley. That ...

Re: Owl + Surfboard

(an American expression) Wait... wut? :? Anyway, I haven't even played with the new version yet. If my car rebuild ever gets done hopefully I'll be able to clear up more astro time. And like Dietmar I'm not sure I have all the mechanics of this stuff understood yet. Seems like maybe a difficult pro...

Re: askar c1 and c2 filters

Hey Steve, Short of time to check out the files, maybe on the weekend. Or a weekend after that lol... But, you might consider ditching the B channel and only using G when creating the OIII file. Review the response graphs of your camera and the filters first, but for most OSC and duobands I think it...

Re: Playing with duoband colors

Pretty cool! As I was going down the set and things became darker and more red saturated, I was thinking myself that getting white back into the core would probably look the best. And the last image got there! Heavy star field though, gosh. So maybe that could be pushed back just a bit in the final,...

Re: presentation questions

I'm afraid, we're not done with this yet. Stefan (@Stefan B) and I felt independently of each other the need to brighten up our small galaxies using Super Structure's brighten preset, because it was not possible to get them bright enough just using OptiDev. And lately Andy (@AndyBooth) explai...

Re: My StarTools module-by-module user notes

46 pages, yikes! These are very thorough notes. :D So, I only made it through page 1 so far. Two things perhaps: 1. For OSC Open, I'm not sure middle button is really middle button anymore, since with Help at the end there's 4. 2. The synth L is indeed specially weighted from the RGB channel...
