M51 - The Whirlpool Galaxy
Hi all, this one was not an easy one - once again, this is at least my third try on this object: https://cdn.astrobin.com/thumbs/Ca1HRrpRaeiB_16536x0_ieTZ0INm.jpg After stacking, I noticed a strange and (for my setup) unusual kind of (correlated?) noise, which messed up the processing and the image ...

Re: NGC 3372 Carina Nebula Eastern Region in SHO
As always, a perfect image, Martin. Well done. Nothing more to say :D I like this SHO version a bit more than the Synthetic LRGB version, but that's probably just personal taste. Interesting "disclamer". Who would have thought that it would come so far. :( In the beginning I always thought 'Well, th...

Re: LENR with a Fuji XT-1
There's another reason, why one may not want to use LENR: valuable imaging time gets lost when taking darks after each image. AFAIK taking darks is not a common practice when imaging with a DLSR, because it is difficult to match sensor temperature. Instead it is possible to use bias and flat-darks o...

Re: Colours in the Trapezium in M42
In this case it is really easy to prove: Take off the camera and replace it with an eyepiece. The Orion Nebula is the only deep space object which is bright enough to stimulate human eye's colour perception. It is easily visible, even with my 8" newt under a B5+ sky. And it looks great. And green :m...
Re: M 106
A 'stretch of clear nights'? 'Three of them dedicated to M106?!' :confusion-shrug: Lucky you. Again only a few hours here for me. This is a huge improvement compared to your old version. And the Ha parts are really worth it, even if there's some continuum signal left over. The jet is very...

Re: Some Stars
Generic open cluster thread is a great idea. Indeed ironically, everything which makes look the Beehive nice in this case are undesired effects under normal circumstances. Enlarged stars and surrounding glow due to atmospheric conditions (seeing, haze), limited aperture, optical imperfections like d...
Re: LBN 801
Oh, forgot to add: It's fascinating to see, what your B4 location is worth compared to my (maybe sometimes) B5. This makes it even more impressive what our friends under B8 or worse are able to achieve.
Re: LBN 801
A nice one, Stefan. This object shows an unusual overall appearance, in terms of colour - very cool. I don't see too much mottling. And the slightly fuzzy look - well I guess that's OK considering that this is obviously an extremely faint nebula.

Re: Monkey Business ... NB with RGB stars
Hi Stefan, I absolutely concur. So the 'NB luminance' approach is definitely worth a try whenever broadband data is too weak for processing with NB Accent. Of course it might depend on the characteristics of the actual object and data.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Some Stars
Thanks for your reply, Ron. :) I think I tried changing the bit depth, but it made no difference, surprisingly. Some of the background galaxies are already visible (and I like them), but a less aggressive stretch always resulted in a dirty looking background, so I called it a day. But I already thou...
