Re: Veil Nebula- processing issues
Thank you so much for looking into this and for your advice - very grateful! I think you are right- my current set up is Nikon D800, Skywatcher AZ GTI tracker, Skywatcher Evostar 72ED.... I think the problem was that the AZ GTI Synscan inbuilt wifi dropped whilst shooting. I thought I had noticed it...

Iris Nebula- trouble processing
Hello I am trying to process this image of the Iris Nebula- just under 3 hours of 1 min frames, D800, Skywatcher 72ED + AZ GTI and not having much luck! The nebula just seems to come up as a light spec and I can't get any of the blue you associate with this object. The link to the file after stackin...

Re: How to create twinkling large stars using StarTools (mine are currently blown out)
Hi, Thank you very much for your reply and v useful advice! - I have since learnt about the spikes being from reflector scopes and not refractors like mine. Very good to know about the function in StarTools that helps with this, and thank you for your edit of the image! I am less keen on superficial...

How to create twinkling large stars using StarTools (mine are currently blown out)
Hi I have still got a lot to learn with StarTools and was wondering if anyone could advise on how to create the "twinkle" on large stars in images please. I am editing my Horsehead Nebula shot but the large stars look blown out rather then sharp and the typical 4 spike twinkle that you see in some i...

Re: M101 - difficulty processing
Thank you very much- yes I think I will definitely make better use / plan calibration frames going forward! - I worked out the reason why my flat frames were not correct (iso was the same as light/dark frames and therefore too high!). I will definitely aim focusing pre processing/ acquisition techni...

Re: M101 - difficulty processing
Hi Carles,
Thank you very much! - that is much better than mine and really useful to know your steps!
I think working on the calibration frames is definitely the next step forward.
Just attempted for a re-edit and hopefully it will come out a little better this time.
Thanks again!

Re: M101 - difficulty processing
Thank you!- yes, I will take a look at the flats and try to see if there is any issue. I only used Siril because DSS seems to save the stacked image as TIF which isn't compatible with StarTools - I hadn't realised that DDS could do the things you mentioned so will look into this too. Thanks for the ...

Re: M101 - difficulty processing
Hi Thank you so much for your reply! - I think the issue maybe the JPEG format as in the FITs version it appears differently (I think the FITs file is too big to attach to this post as it won't allow me to). After an initial bin, stretch, crop and wipe I am able to get the attached image, but there ...
