Re: Open up StarTools?
I think a case of Startools not being continuously active in the social Astro community. Most Astro content guys push Pixinsight , Photoshop etc…. On YouTube , Astro forums and so on as they are more commonly accepted and used by most who enter the hobby. I’m sure Ivo started Startools as a real alt...

Re: Compose module needs alignment
Andrew, I concur with Dietmar, At first glance it looks like chromatic aberration of the optics or possible aberration caused by imaging at low altitudes lower than 30deg. Chromatic aberration usually shows blue/ greens on the bottom and red hues on the top of the star across the image field. When y...

Re: Compose module needs alignment
I’ve mostly used ASTAP with Mono data sets inclusive of all filters ( L, R, G, B , Ha , Oiii and Sii ) and never had an issue with alignment using ST Compose. This includes an LRGBHa composed data set. Heres my basic workflow for stacking in ASTAP …., I visually check my all lights ( fits ) in ASTAP...

Re: Compose module needs alignment
Startools is not Stacking software and I’m glad it’s not. There are loads of stacking programs out there to prepare your data set for Startools. I’ve started using Siril , then DSS for about 5 years and now use ASTAP which I think is the best stacker around ( as good as Pixinsight ) ASTAP runs on an...

Re: NGC 6559 Chinese Dragon Nebula in HOO
Jeff, Yes a lot of folk on our local forum use APP for their OSC data , very intuitive I assume before your first Wipe , you Crop edges ( same cropped image size for both Ha and Oiii ) for stacking artefacts etc… and Bin ( same Bin for Ha and Oiii ) to maximise your SNR ? I don’t think Compose has a...

Re: NGC 6559 Chinese Dragon Nebula in HOO
Hi Jeff, Interesting observation about your Oiii signal I’ve never split my OSC Dualband ( Ha / Oiii ) data set for narrowband Bi colour renditions, I’ve always just loaded my OSC Dualband data set into Compose via R/Sii, G/Ha and B/Oiii and selected the Luminance , Colour as L + Synthetic L from R(...

Re: Iris Nebula - star colour with L-Pro
Hi Matt, Glad to offer advice where I can from my own experiences I’d say Ivo is a very busy man these days with his own business but does take time out of his schedule to comment and offer great advice. So many members have helped me out over the years ( including Ivo ) it’s a small but great commu...

Re: NGC 6559 Chinese Dragon Nebula in HOO
Thanks This nebula is basically an extension of M8 Lagoon which is vastly different. It definitely has fine “fluffy” nebulosity and lacks those distinct ridged structures that most nebula exhibit but its unique. I struggled as well with my OSC and dualband to replicate those stereotypical Hubble pal...

NGC 6559 Chinese Dragon Nebula in HOO
The nights have been cloudy for 2 weeks since returning from a trip so decided to reprocess NGC 6559 which was captured back in September and posted as an SHO version. This time I processed a Bi colour HOO version which ended up having a higher noise floor to work with due to my noisy Oiii data. Cap...

Re: Iris Nebula - star colour with L-Pro
Hi Matt, Ok firstly the Narrowband colour palette has no scientific documentary value ( unlike Broadband ) and so apart from the standard SHO and HOO blends , folk are able to create ridiculous but amazing “Astro artwork” to provide the Wow factor. As you are using a OSC camera with L enhance filter...
