Re: Help with processing NGC 253

Thanks Ivo. I can confirm DSS was set as you have shown, and DCRAW used as you have shown. You have mentioned binning before and I totally forgot about that. How can I know to use the Dark Anomaly filter in Wipe before seeing the colour results? And what do I set it to? Or is it try and error? If th...

Help with processing NGC 253

Hi Ivo, Following on from our discussion on ISS about NGC6744's colours, I have had a go at NGC 253. Only 40 mins due to being fogged out. Again, a quick google shows lots of brown NGC 253's. This is the default colouring that came up with the colour module. http://www.astrobin.com/full/109879/0/ Yo...

Re: Testimonials

Ivo, Just wanted to drop you a note thanking you for making such a great piece of software. I never could understand how to use programs like Photoshop for astrophotography. Your software makes intuitive sense to me. It is easy and automatic enough to get good results almost immediately, but powerfu...

Re: Mottle background and star halo

Well, I've cheated a litte. I took the good comet image and used Gimp to superimpose it over the better background image. I've already spent way too much time trying to find out what DSS is doing and can't find any answers.

Thanks. Just wish I could work out what DSS is doing. I haven't found a solution yet.

Re: Mottle background and star halo

Ok, restacked again with one less file that DSS didn't seem to like (got rid of the donut stars). Mottling is better, but still there. Not sure if I can do any better with DSS?

Re: Mottle background and star halo

Thanks. I noticed the green after I finsihed. I might have another go at it. Do you think my images would benefit from darks and flats? I have a light box coming so I will soon be able to take flats. I'm unsure if darks are work the time since this camera seems to have low noise.

Re: Mottle background and star halo

What's interesting is the mottled glow around stars which I think is giving this background (it's most noticeable around the bright orange star) is offset in the same direction as the comet's motion. So it must be something to do with the stacking. I think the mottling is a small smeared halo around...

Re: Mottle background and star halo

Thanks Ivo. I'm guessing it's something to do with the comet stacking in DSS. I'll have to looking to it more.
