My StarTools module-by-module user notes
FWIW, the link below is for my user notes on StarTools' modules. Generally, if I don't write it down I don't remember it; especially since nights available to me for capturing data for processing are far and few between. This is a compilation of information from other knowledgeable sources and littl...

Re: Donut stars
I do not understand the details of these discussions despite my efforts in rereading them several times. I am, however, very interested in the improved OptiDev results with the changes in last month's 1.9.565 Beta and would love to read more about that.
Thanks, Jeff
Thanks, Jeff

Re: NGC 3324 Gabriela Mistral Nebula
How difficult would it be to add a separate alternative HDR module with the 1.7 version functions in the current 1.9 Beta?

Re: NGC 3324 Gabriela Mistral Nebula
Have your tried the new DSO Core preset in 1.9 HDR? I can't find any specific documentation on it; but from its parameter settings I am guessing that it may be targeting the result 1.7 used to give.

Re: Controlling stars
Hi,
Thanks for moving my question about separate processing techniques for stars here. If it would help here is a link to the linear FITS file for this image: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jtelib ... sp=sharing
(As mentioned before, this is not great data).

Re: Workflow to increase OIII in duo band images
Hi Mike, Another approach I discovered is to use the Filter module to bring out OIII color. (It is amazing to me the tools I am finding available in StarTools). I masked the area where OIII is expected and masked the stars out of that area. Probably could have tweaked that mask better and I only tar...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition
Thank you guys for the excellent discussion about sharpening. From reading Professor Morrison's article, it is accurate to conclude that Startool's wavelet sharpening is a more data-driven tool than other so-called "accutance" sharpening algorithms? That is, it is essentially a correction using the ...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition
I am certainly not well versed in what is a true astro image vs. what has things added that are not really there. As to Sharp my question is whether it is making the image sharper than the original photons support? Or, is it correcting things that prevent those photons from otherwise being seen and/...

Re: OK, so a Tadpoles Startools version - SHO color palet -IC 410
Hi Mike, From my understanding the Sharpen algorithm got its "unsharp" name from analog photography when two negatives of an image were placed on top of one another slightly apart and photographed which made the result slightly blurry or "unsharp". That blurred "unsharp mask" image was then placed o...

Band Balance in NB Accent module
Hi Ivo and others, In the NB Accent module in ST1.9 there is a Band Balance parameter which says it balances the application of two narrowband signals. Is that option active? I have tried to load two narrowbands (Ha and OIII) in various ways but that parameter is always disabled. I think it would be...
