Re: Bayer drizzle
Thanks for pointing out, Ron. I'm also sure that money will be better invested in new hardware. Instead of buying PI and supporting their monopoly (just kidding?) you could consider to make a donation to the Siril team or to buy a T-Shirt from their shop ;) Dietmar. I did! (make a donation - no T s...

Re: Bayer drizzle
The next version of Siril will include true drizzle and CFA drizzle. Might be months before they decide it is ready for release, though the current code is available to build your own. The manual entry is already posted: https://siril.readthedocs.io/en/latest/preprocessing/drizzle.html#cfa-drizzling...

Re: M94 an in-progress fool's errand (and an experiment)
Thanks, Stefan. I like the rich colors you got in your version. I've made some progress. I decided to go forward with the high-conversion gain, 120s subs. The knee-jerk CN reaction to that would be that that is the wrong choice, especially from B6. But I'm only saturating fewer than 100 pixels, and ...

Re: Processes or tools for removing moon glare?
This past full moon we had a clear night, and I decided to shoot a few hours of NGC 4565. It would be, I think, a best-case scenario for Wiping the moon, as it is fairly bright, small and without much dim extended nebulosity. Here's what Wipe had to start with (cropped, initial optidev) before.jpg T...

Re: Headphone Nebula Jones-Emberson 1
Stars are pretty darn bleached, so much so I thought I accidentally ended up in the PI forums. So agree that some RGB stars will really help. I finally got around to adding rgb stars. The rgb stars were so much tighter than the narrowband stars that I ended up using Layer to add the nebula to the s...

Re: M94 an in-progress fool's errand (and an experiment)
Thanks Freddy. I'm happy with the details and colors in the central part - but it's the faint halo of stars that makes M94 special. That's going to be hard from B6/7-land. I imagine it takes a while to wrap your head around gain and 'conversion mode', coming from only using a dslr for so long. The s...

M94 an in-progress fool's errand (and an experiment)
It is very difficult to do justice to M94 from my SQM 18.8 backyard. I really should have waited for dark-site trips, but I don't do very many of those despite easy access to better skies ~1 hour drive away. The experiment part came about due to playing around with exposure settings. A couple of mon...

Re: Donut stars
Despite the fact that Ekos added the saturation count quite a while ago (a year-ish, I think?), I have not done many broadband projects in the time since and I'm still playing around with combinations. With the M97 I intentionally pushed exposure longer than is (obviously) prudent for the stars. I w...

Re: Donut stars
At the risk of derailing this thread about star cores with a post about star cores  565 is not, it turns out, a super-magic bullet against flat-disk star cores. But I think you have to work at it. How do I know? Last month I started on am M97/M108 project. I took some test subs and pushed the e...

Re: Messier 3 (CVn)
Very nice, Marko! I must admit it took me a minute to figure out what (CVn) meant  The astrobin link says you used an L-Pro filter for this. Any particular reason why? I have a similar amount of time on M3 also this year from my B6/B7 home, but I always shoot clusters and galaxies without any l...
